Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Edvard Grieg’s Lyric Pieces or Frédéric Chopin’s Etudes and Preludes performed on saxophones? It sounds like a crime against music in its purest form – and a premeditated one.

If the deceased could speak, we would ask the composers themselves what they think about this album. Judging, however, by the number of views of the band’s single (“Storm” from Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons – approx. 30 million views) on the Internet, contemporary music lovers have clearly fallen in love with this kind of sound.

For them, as well as for everyone intrigued by this idea, we have wonderful news – the album featuring The WHOOP Group’s musical crimes is now available and waiting for you on store shelves.

The second album from the Crimes series, launched by the band in 2018. It is not only a continuation of the criminal theme introduced on the debut album, but also an expanded and more advanced development of this idea. The album contains exclusively original transcriptions of selected orchestral works and not a single piece originally composed for saxophone quartet.

The third studio album by The WHOOP Group, marking the ensemble’s first recorded attempt to capture its own musical style. The album features such well-known works as Libertango by Astor Piazzolla, Spain by Chick Corea, Für Elise by Ludwig van Beethoven, the famous Rosemary’s Baby Lullaby by Krzysztof Komeda, and many others. All of these pieces appear in original arrangements and recompositions created by the members of the ensemble, whose ideas for presenting these familiar themes are sure to surprise many listeners.

The album showcases the rich sonic, technical, and coloristic possibilities of the unique ensemble that is the saxophone orchestra. The repertoire includes transcriptions and arrangements of works firmly established in the orchestral literature (by Beethoven, Mussorgsky, and Kilar, arranged by members of the orchestra – Jakub Muras, Karol Mastalerz, and Paweł Gusnar), a suite consisting of popular film music themes arranged by Krzysztof Koszowski, as well as the premiere recording of a work written especially for the ensemble by Wojciech Chałupka. In the final piece, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, the virtuosic solo part is performed by the outstanding saxophone quartet The WHOOP Group.
